Second Annual Best Practices Fundraising Summit

Best Practices, Better Summit

Despite the rain pouring down in “sunny” San Diego, The Giving Back Fund’s Second Annual Best Practices in Sports and Entertainment Philanthropy Summit was a resounding success! Leaders from sports and celebrity-associated philanthropic organizations traveled from as far as New Hampshire and Spokane, Washington to learn valuable information on the unique opportunities and challenges faced by celebrity and athlete charity endeavors.

Experts provided unique insight on topics ranging from negotiating cause-marketing and sponsorship, to planning special events and online auctions, to developing a social networking strategy. Cutting-edge fundraising tools that have yet to be released to the general public were also presented. Speakers included Dan Migala, Vice President of Partnership Solutions at the San Diego Padres; Jeffrey Moorad, Vice Chairman and CEO of the San Diego Padres; Jaison Morgan, White House consultant and Founder of the Common Pool; Kurt Aschermann, President of Charity Partners Foundation; and Kim Novick, Development Director of the Tony Hawk Foundation. The intimate setting allowed attendees to make new contacts in the industry and ask questions specific to their organizations and circumstances. Check out the photos from the Summit here.

A special thank you goes out to the San Diego Padres, who hosted the group in a special VIP box at the SD Padres-SF Giants game. Jeffrey Moorad joked that we were his “good luck tokens,” as we were there to witness the Padres beat the Giants 5-2.

We hope to see you at next year’s event in March of 2011. We already have some fabulous ideas for panels and speakers and - as always - tips and tricks to make your celebrity or athletes’ charity efforts more successful than ever before!
